Although he is with the Dallas Stars, former Anaheim Ducks winger, Corey Perry, is getting a second chance at the Stanely Cup.

For 14-seasons, Corey Perry made a name for himself as one of the greatest players to ever wear an Anaheim Ducks sweater. With Ryan Getzlaf by his side, the twins became the cornerstone that led the franchise to the Stanely Cup in 2007, two more appearances in the Western Conference Finals, and 6 Pacific Division Titles. The menace that every team hated, but we all loved, seemed unstoppable. However, Father Time is no respecter of persons, and Pears had quickly taken the plunge over the hill.

The devastating news of his buyout, although not unexpected, shook us to the core. Then, before we even had time to finish processing the news, that Dallas Stars swooped in and offered him something the Anaheim Ducks couldn’t; a second chance at the Stanely Cup.

The Stars started off the season on the wrong foot, but things picked up for them when Rick Bowness took over behind the bench following the dismissal of former Dallas Stars head coach, Jim Montgomery. Stanley Cup dreams once again flourished in American Airlines Center. However, the Dallas Stars road to Lord Stanley was going to be a long one.

Nevertheless, the Stars relentless spirit saw them best Calgary in 6 Games, take down the incredible Colorado Avalanche in 7 Games, and destroy the fortunate favorites of the NHL, the Vegas Golden Knights, in just 5 Games. Despite their long list of injuries, including their Vezina caliber goaltender, Ben Bishop, they have defied the odds.

More from Ducks News

For the first time in 13 years, our beloved Corey Perry is in search of one of the most coveted trophies in sports history. While we would have preferred it be with the Anaheim Ducks, the reality is, the Ducks don’t have the pieces to be a Stanely Cup contender. And quite frankly, Corey Perry wouldn’t have changed that for them.

So, while the rest of the Anaheim Ducks team builds chicken coops and cares for their blossoming brood of little ducklings, Anaheim Ducks fans have to make a choice. Who do we root for in the Stanely Cup Final? While both teams have incredible potential, most of us are creatures of habit and gravitate towards what we know, and for 14 years, Corey Perry is what we knew.

While there are certainly a select few Anaheim Ducks fans that will be rebels and root for the Tampa Bay Lightning, the consensus says that most of our eyes are, once again, fixated on Corey Perry. Adding a little more incentive to rooting for the Stars, Andrew Cogliano, our “Iron Man” will be right alongside Pears, vying for the honor to lift Lord Stanely for the first time in his career.

While neither of them has had a stand out season with the Dallas Stars, I think it is safe to say, that the saying “once a Duck, always a Duck” rings true. Our allegiance never waivers, except when they’re playing against the Ducks. The Stanley Cup Finals are going to be a trip, and I think it’s safe for me to speak for most of us when I say that it would be a thrill to watch Corey Perry lift the Stanely Cup once again. Let’s just hope Scorey Perry makes one final brilliant appearance.
