This season has been different without the likes of Corey Perry and Andrew Cogliano as roster regulars. It’s their first night back at Honda Center, and they will be honored for their time with the Anaheim Ducks.
As a fan of any sport, it is always hard to watch your favorite player leave. Whether it be via trade, free agency, or a buyout, it’s never easy watching them put on the jersey for another team. For the first time since being traded and bought out, Corey Perry and Andrew Cogliano, both Dallas Stars now, have made the journey back to Orange County and will be honored by the Anaheim Ducks during tonight’s game.
Both players had been an integral part of the Anaheim Ducks’ success for years. However, with the new direction Bob Murray wanted to take his team, both Perry and Cogliano no longer fit the vision. Coincidently, both players seemed to fit the vision for the Dallas Stars, who have been hungry for the Cup and are in a prime position to be ferocious competitors in the playoffs this year.
As we welcome back both Pears and Cogs, the Anaheim Ducks will play a special video tribute for each player. Perry will be honored during the first broadcast timeout during the first period and Cogliano will be honored during the second time out. So, if you had plans to get up and meander about, I would suggest staying in your seat.
Despite his five-game suspension, however, Corey Perry still made the trip out to Anaheim with the rest of his Dallas Stars teammates. He will not be competing in tonight’s game, but he has requested that the Ducks play the video tribute as scheduled. I guess what Corey Perry wants, Corey Perry gets, and we’re not mad about it.

There is so much to thank both Perry and Cogliano for. During his time with the Anaheim Ducks, Corey Perry played 14 seasons, racking up a total of 778 points 776 points (372g, 404a) in 988 games. He is also a 2007 Stanley Cup Champion and the 2010-11 Hart Trophy and Maurice Richard Trophy recipient. Andrew Cogliano did not start his career with the Anaheim Ducks, but after being traded to OC on July 12, 2011, he spent the next 8 seasons and was a key piece on the roster. He played 584 games, responsible for 233 points (102g, 131a.) He was often recognized as the “Iron Man” for his dedication to the game and never missing a contest (aside from that suspension we don’t talk about.)
Aside from the awards and statistics, both players are responsible for giving us so many wonderful memories. Corey Perry helped bring Lord Stanley back to California for the first time. We will never forget the Comeback on Katella or the game-tying goal Cogliano potted in Game 7 of the same series to send the Ducks further in the playoffs. There have been countless goals, fights, and too many memories to count.
While neither play for the Anaheim Ducks any longer, their impact on the franchise will not soon be forgotten. Not all great things last forever, just look at Paul Kariya. Even Teemu Selanne was subjected to trades. However, the legacy both have left in their wake will serve as a stepping stone to the future success of the Anaheim Ducks. Thank you, Corey Perry and Andrew Cogliano for all that you did during your time in Anaheim. We are grateful for the memories and we will cherish them forever.
