News broke this morning that the Anaheim Ducks have bought out the contract of Corey Perry.
For the past few weeks, rumors that Corey Perry could be either bought out or traded by the Anaheim Ducks have been flying through the rumor mill. Then, at 9:15 am, we were given the somber news that CP10’s contract had been bought out. While we knew it was coming, the news that he will no longer be a Duck stings just as much.
Buying out Perry’s contract will allow the Ducks to get out from under his $8.625M contract and open up more cap space as well as roster space for other players to thrive. This also goes to show just how serious Bob Murray is about his team getting younger and faster. 33-year-old Perry’s exit leaves only two players on the roster older than 30.

Drafted in 2003, along with his “twin”, Ryan Getzlaf, Perry has become a cornerstone for the Anaheim Ducks franchise. He ends his career in Anaheim having dressed for 988 games, the most in franchise history. To add to his game totals, he also registered 372 goals and 776 career points, which is, on average, almost 56 points per season.
He is the first, and only, Duck to have ever been the recipient of the Hart Trophy, winning after a phenomenal 50 goal campaign in 2010-11. During his time in Anaheim, Perry also had a huge hand in helping the team win their first Stanely Cup in 2007, leading the team in playoff points that year. He has also been the recipient of the Maurice Richards Trophy, two Olympic Gold Medals, and has represented his team at four NHL All-Star Games.
CP10 has also served alongside Ryan Getzlaf for the past four seasons as his alternate captain. He has been a staple at Honda Center since breaking into the league 14 years ago and although it is sad to see him go, the decision to buy him out will benefit both the Ducks and Perry in the long run.
We wish him the best of luck on his new journey and want to thank him for 14 incredible seasons with the Anaheim Ducks. He has been a big part of Ducks hockey and his impact on the franchise will not be forgotten anytime soon. Someday, we will see number 10 raised to the rafters to remind all of us of the legend that is, and was, Corey Perry.
