Ever since he was called up by the Anaheim Ducks, Max Jones has displayed incredible talent at an NHL level, but will he net his first goal this season?

Night after night, you can feel the anticipation of Ducks Nation as they impatiently wait for 21-year-old, Max Jones, to net his first NHL goal. He has come incredibly close numerous times over the past few months but to no avail. However, he has not gone unnoticed on the ice since he was called up by the Anaheim Ducks in mid-January.

The words “snake-bitten” come to mind when thinking of the young left wing. He looks confident with the puck and has adapted to the speed of the NHL at an incredible pace. Yet, despite the 29 phenomenal opportunities he has found himself with during his 16 games with the Ducks, something has always gotten in his way.

Then, during every game, we find ourselves willing the puck to go into the back of the net whenever it’s on Jones’ stick. With only 14 games left in the regular season, the window of opportunity gets smaller with every passing day. This begs the question, will he score his first goal this season?

The answer to this question is a bit complicated because it is still unknown. A player scoring his first goal is not something that can be calculated. It is unpredictable, as are most goals. For example, no one could have predicted that Jaycob Megna would score his first goal against the St. Louis Blues. Nevertheless, the “perfect” opportunity paired with a few smart decisions from his teammates led to him putting the puck into the back of the net.

The good news is, a players skill is not determined by how many times he scores a goal. In his 16 games with the Anaheim Ducks, Jones has already proven that he is NHL ready and we could see him back on the team full-time next season.

He has proven that he can be responsible. During every shift, whether it’s at 5on5 or even on the power play, he still makes an impact, even though he can’t seem to get the puck past a goaltender. The speed and strength he displays on the ice are a perfect representation of what Bob Murray is looking for as the Anaheim Ducks move forward with a re-tool.

Max Jones is relentless, he has proven as much at every other level of hockey he has played. He will score a goal, that much we can guarantee. Whether it is this season or next is still unknown. Nevertheless, during each game, he pushes himself harder than the last. With spirit and determination like that, he’s bound to score that goal soon, and when he does, the flood gates will open and we will likely see him on the score sheet more often than not.

When he finally scores his first goal, his celebration is going to be well worth the wait. Ducks Nation will be celebrating right there alongside him. The future of the Anaheim Ducks looks extremely bright with such a promising prospect like Max Jones in the system.
