Last night, the Anaheim Ducks suffered heartbreak on Katella Avenue when they lost to the Chicago Blackhawks in the final 16 seconds of the final period.

Watching the Anaheim Ducks this season certainly hasn’t been all fun and games. The team has been a disaster most of the season, aside from a few games here and there, and the organization has tried to sugar coat it with the Silver Anniversary “celebration.”

During the final seconds of last night’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks, the Anaheim Ducks were devastated in the final seconds of the third period after a Patrick Kane fired a wicked wrister past Ryan Miller with 16 seconds left on the clock. After a good effort by the Anaheim Ducks, they walked away without so much as a single point.

However, in the midst of the heartbreaking loss, there is hope. While the Ducks have yet to solve the barrage of issues that have plagued them most of the season, they have looked better in their last few games than they have all season.

Having Bob Murray behind the bench definitely is not an ideal permanent solution to their coaching woes. Nevertheless, putting an end to Randy Carlyle‘s reign of terror has certainly seemed to help. While the players do all the work on the ice, the coach is the one who steers the ship. Putting the Anaheim Ducks in a toxic environment with RC was not fair to the players or the fans.

Randy Carlyle is certainly not completely to blame for the issues the Anaheim Ducks have faced this season. Regardless, the attitude of the team has done a complete turn around lately. The team is playing with more spirit and they look driven. They still make mistakes, yes, but they have put their heart and soul back into the game of hockey.

The way they have been playing lately is a small step in the right direction for next season. If a retool is really what Bob Murray wants, and we agree that’s what he should do, there will be changes made. However, with this season almost in the rearview mirror, it gives Ducks Nation a small sliver of hope that, come next year, the Anaheim Ducks will be better than ever.

I think after this season, we all need a good reminder as to why we love this team so much and, I speak really only for myself, they’ve done a decent job lately of reminding us why we root for them night after night and year after year. Hopefully, next season, we can look back on the 25th Anniversary as just a small setback on the Anaheim Ducks path to victory.
