While no official statement has been released by the Anaheim Ducks, several credible sources have reported that Jakob Silfverberg has been signed to a five-year extension.

With the trade deadline less than a week away, things are starting to heat up around the National Hockey Leauge. If the Anaheim Ducks are active at all, they are predicted to be sellers. However, one player who no longer has to worry about his fate with the franchise is 28-year-old Swedish forward, Jakob Silfverberg.

The Anaheim Ducks have yet to release any official statement regarding the details of the contract extension, but several credible sources, such as Elliott Teaford, Elliotte Friedman, Eric Stephens, and a few others have reported that the ink on Silfverberg’s shiny new contract has already begun to dry.

There has been a lot of speculation as to which direction the Anaheim Ducks would go regarding Silfverberg’s impending UFA status. After Adam Henrique and John Gibson were both awarded hefty extensions during the offseason, rumors began to surface that Bob Murray might use JS33 as an enticing trade chip at some point during the 2018-19 season.

However, as of late, Murray has been quite vocal about his hopes of re-signing the Anaheim Ducks leading goal scorer. Shortly after trading Andrew Cogliano, when asked how he would approach the upcoming UFA status of Jakob Silfverberg in an interview on the Anaheim Ducks NHL.com website, Bob Murray responded with this quote:

"“You take another crack at signing him. We’re going to do that right now, and we’ll see where that goes. Silvy knows exactly where I’m at. He’s a good hockey player. He’s one of those ones right now standing up and being counted. I have to take a shot at it. We’ll see where we go.” -Bob Murray"

All sources have seemed to corroborate the same terms for Silfverberg’s extension; a 5-year contract at which the AAV is expected to be approximately $5.25M. This contract is said to also include a 10 team no-trade clause (NTC.) Currently 28-years-old, this contract is set to expire when he is 33, which could be indicative of the fact that all parties included in the process of negotiating this extension want #33 to possibly finish his NHL career in Anaheim.

The Anaheim Ducks are going to have to make a few tough decisions with this contract on the books next season. Do you think Bob Murray made the right move by re-signing Jakob Silfverberg? Let us know by leaving a comment down below!
