The Anaheim Ducks should reward Troy Terry and Max Jones for all of their hard work, and the best way to do that is to send them both down to San Diego.

To say that this season has been difficult for the Anaheim Ducks would be an understatement. However, the recent bright spot in a rather grim season has been the presence of rookies Troy Terry and Max Jones in the lineup.

Although he struggled with the Anaheim Ducks at the beginning of the season, Troy Terry has had an incredible season with the San Diego Gulls, producing on average one point per game (41 points in 41 games.) His time with the Gulls gave him a much-needed confidence boost, and the last two times he’s been called up, it has been evident that he will be NHL ready by next season.

Max Jones sat out the beginning of the season due to an injury. While the rest of the rookies were getting their shot in the NHL, he was patiently waiting to get back onto the ice. He has posted 28 points since he has returned, and finally got his shot with the Anaheim Ducks prior to the All-Star break.

The chemistry between Terry and Jones was evident prior to the All-Star break, but was slightly diminished due to the state of the rest of the team. However, during their most recent stint with the club, over the past four games, the tandem has given Ducks Nation a taste of the future with the Anaheim Ducks and it is sweet indeed.

Nevertheless, it is time for Bob Murray to consider sending his two star “Ducklings” back to San Diego where they belong for the rest of the season. With the recent changes to the team, the two players are certinally pushing the Ducks in a positive direction. So, why send them back now?

Should They Stay or Should They Go?

While it is a hard pill to swallow, the thought of Max Jones and Troy Terry being sent down, the Anaheim Ducks will need a miracle to make it into the playoffs now. Both Terry and Jones have put the pedal to the metal this season, in both the AHL and NHL, and pushed themselves to be their very best. They deserve to be rewarded for their hard work.

If they stay with the Anaheim Ducks, their season will end on April 5th when they faceoff against the Los Angeles Kings for the final game of the regular season. There will be no playoff run and no Stanley Cup; their only reward will be an early start to their summer.

If Bob Murray finds it in his heart to send the duo back to San Diego, before the trade deadline, there is a big chance the Gulls could make a run for the Calder Cup. They are currently in a playoff position and they have a greater chance of making it further with Jones and Terry in the lineup than without them.

Winning the Calder Cup before being moved into a full time role with the Anaheim Ducks next season would do wonders for both players. They are already both dedicated and confident men, but this would be a reminder to them that they have what it takes to be champions. Winning is truly a humbling experiance, but it allows players to feel more confident about their abilities.

Besides, it wouldn’t feel right for the San Diego Gulls to win the Calder Cup without them. Both have had a huge hand in the Gulls success this season, and preventing them from taking part in the Gulls playoff berth would be unfortunate. They’ve worked hard and they don’t deserve to end their season anything less than champions.
