Week one for the Anaheim Ducks has proved to be a challenge, but not a challenge they couldn’t overcome. The Ducks currently sit at 3-0-0, leading the Pacific Division in points after only one week of action.

Today at Pucks Of A Feather, we’re picking things back up and ranking the Anaheim Ducks three stars of the week for the first week of Ducks hockey! The start of the season has been quite a surprise to many, myself included.

Considering our first two matchups saw us being outshot and downright outplayed in certain instances, it was incredible that the Ducks have won their first three contests. Regardless, Anaheim’s youth movement has made it work. Now let’s get this started with the Honorable Mentions!

Anaheim Ducks Honorable Mentions

As a staff, we felt three Ducks all deserve an HM this week. It’s very apparent there are still some kinks that need to be worked out as we shift to a newer style of play but these Ducks stepped up in a big way.

Kiefer Sherwood: Kiefer Sherwood gets our first nod solely based on the fact that he’s playing with tenacity out there. The twenty-three-year-old has two assists in three games.

Hampus Lindholm: Hampus Lindholm has arguably been our best defender thus far. He’s really held his own after being split up from partner Josh Manson. Hampus has one point from a game-tying goal at the home opener this Monday night.

Adam Henrique: Adam Henrique has had to fill top line duties with Captain Ryan Getzlaf being day to day. Uncle Rico has three points already (1G, 2A), tied for second alongside Rickard Rakell and Max Comtois.

Anaheim Ducks Third Star of The Week: Max Comtois (2G, 1A)

Our third star this week is the new talk of the town, Max Comtois! Sitting at three points to start his rookie campaign, Max Comtois is turning heads and making a name for himself just three games in. He netted the game-winning goal against Arizona. His first NHL goal was scored just 49 seconds into the season opener at San Jose.

Max is really starting to find great chemistry with linemate Jakob Silfverberg which is very promising, at least to me considering Silfverberg’s name has been tossed around as trade bait amongst the Ducks fandom.

Anaheim Ducks Second Star of The Week: Jakob Silfverberg (1G, 4A)

Our second entry is none other than Ooh Ahh Silfverberg! The twenty-seven-year-old winger has had a tremendous start to this season, leading the team in points with a total of five. With a lot of the big guns sidelined with injuries and his usual place on the shutdown line being pretty much dismantled due to the status of Ryan Kesler.

Jakob Silfverberg has found a great chemistry thus far with linemate and rookie Max Comtois. With Adam Henrique assuming top line minutes in the absence of Ryan Getzlaf, this second line is now being centered by Sam Steel. Hopefully, Silfvy can keep pace and continue the great work and help this young line flourish.

Anaheim Ducks First Star of The Week: John Gibson (3-0, 1 SO, 1.30 GAA)

This should come as no surprise. With Anaheim off to a fairly shaky start due to key players still being out, a new system being implemented. With the debuts of 6 new rookies, only one thing has stayed the same. That is the phenomenal performance from John Gibson.

Fresh off signing a brand new, eight-year extension this summer, Gibby has come out of the gate flying looking his best, both from a performance and appearance standpoint.  There are some big changes to Gibby’s style this year. He seems more technically sound, he’s not having to rely on his desperation saves as much. Overall, he just looks like he’s in great shape.

Fresh off a nineteen save win against the Red Wings in the home opener, Gibson has allowed just four goals on 95 shots against. FOUR. While it is still really early, Gibby is already making a case for himself again to be in the Vezina conversation like he rightfully should be. Gibson’s 1.30 GAA is ranked second in the league behind only Andrei Vasilevskiy (0.92 GAA).
