2017-18 First Annual Anaheim Ducks “Quackie” Awards – Part One
Pucks of Feather rewards excellence. Its why we created the Anaheim Ducks Quackie awards. Today is the first installment where we cover the preliminaries. Tomorrow we move on to the more serious hardware.
Pucks of a Feather Contributor of the ½ Season
We have some outstanding contributors at Pucks of a Feather. As the site expert, it’s my responsibility to add the best, most passionate contributors in order to bring our readership top insights and analysis of the Anaheim Ducks. To that end, every current member of the staff was personally recruited by me.
Greg Johnson was the first person I brought in. His knowledge of the Ducks (and Gulls) is virtually unmatched. Additionally, Greg’s ability to add intelligence and humor to his writing has made him very popular among our readers. Congratulations Greg.
More from Pucks of a Feather
- Who could the Anaheim Ducks consider presenting offer sheets to?
- Is Pierre-Luc Dubois on the cards for the rebuilding Anaheim Ducks?
- Making the case for the Anaheim Ducks to trade with the Edmonton Oilers
- Anaheim Ducks might benefit tremendously by trading John Gibson
- How close are the Anaheim Ducks to becoming contenders again?
Greg’s tenure made him the favorite this year, but Blake Navarro, Ciara Durant, and Jacob Robles are outstanding contributors. It will be an entertaining fight to the finish for this award next season.
I-5 Shuttle Award
Reto Berra. It takes a special kind of personality to be the third goalie of an NHL team. From one day to the next, this position requires the player to alternate his mindset between being the number one goalie for the AHL team in San Diego to riding the pine for the Anaheim Ducks. Berra has done it to perfection this year.
Berra shuttled between Anaheim and San Diego 10 times this season. He didn’t let it affect his play for either team. Berra was particularly effective during the five games he played as a member of the Ducks. He went 1-1-0, with a 2.36 GAA and .926 SV%. When the Ducks needed him to step up, he did.
Good Guy Award
Andrew Cogliano. There aren’t very many people in Anaheim Ducks Nation that would dispute Andrew Cogliano as the team’s “Good Guy.” He has been nominated for the NHL’s annual Bill Masterton Award five years straight.
The Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the National Hockey League player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey. If you were to replace Bill Masterton’s name with Cogliano’s, it would be just as impactful. Watch Cogs play the game. Every time he takes the ice, you can see his perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication. When his ironman streak was controversially ended, he handled it with both class and dignity.
