Ducks Three Stars of the Week (April 16-23)
After the disheartening sweep the Ducks suffered during the first round of the playoffs, it would be an understatement to say that choosing this week’s three stars was difficult. However, after a lot of contemplation, the staff here at Pucks of a Feather has separated the wheat from the chaff.
Third Star – Doug “Sluggo” Shearer
Doug “Sluggo” Shearer has spent the past eleven seasons working as the Anaheim Ducks head equipment manager. Doug has worked tirelessly every season to make sure that the team is kept safe on the ice. However, after 34 seasons in the NHL, he is ready for a much-deserved retirement.
During his career, Doug worked with the Washington Capitals from 1983-2007. Since leaving Washington, he has faithfully worked alongside our players in Anaheim. His dedication to the job has also earned him the position as the equipment manager during several World Championships. He was also the equipment manager at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.
After his decision to retire was made public, the Ducks surprised him with the perfect retirement gift. Francois Beauchemin handed him a pair of keys, and waiting for him at center ice was a beautiful Tracker fishing boat. A well-earned gift to celebrate all of his years of service and dedication to Anaheim and all of the Ducks players.
“Any and all hockey players I’ve ever had, they’ve been special people, just good, hard-working, down-to-earth people. These guys are a special group.” – Doug Shearer, Anaheim Ducks Equipment Manager

Second Star – Francois Beauchemin
Francois Beauchemin has decided after this season he is going to hang up his NHL skates.
The 37-year-old defenseman spent nine seasons playing for Anaheim. After playing two seasons with Colorado, Beauchemin did not hesitate, when he was invited, to come back for one last season with the Ducks.
He has spent many seasons dedicated to the team, playing in almost 600 games as a Duck. Beauch has made eight playoff appearances as a member of the Anaheim Ducks, including the 2007 Stanley Cup Championship season. He is also responsible for 45 goals and 140 assists during his career in Anaheim.
We have a big hole to fill here in the Anaheim locker room with the absence of Beauchemin. Although the season did not end how any of us had hoped, it is an honor to have him retire as a Duck.
Francois, thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to the team and the fans. We hope you have a wonderful retirement.
First Star – Ducks Nation
We have reserved the first start spot for you!
This season would not have been the same without the fans. You have had a lot to deal with this season, yet you still remain faithful to this team. I feel like there is so much unity in Ducks Nation, and it is an honor to be apart of this community. It has been enjoyable being able to share in the joy of victory as well as the disappointments we’ve had to endure.
On behalf of all of us here at Pucks of a Feather, we want to thank you for all of your continued support. The fans are what make it possible for us to keep writing. We have so much gratitude for each and every one of you.
