The Anaheim Ducks have announced that second-year netminder Frederik Andersen will get the start tonight against the Detroit Red Wings. Andersen, 25, will be making his 2014-15 season debut.
Andersen has been given the nod over John Gibson, who started the season opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday.

In his first full season in the NHL last year, Andersen was stellar. He posted a 20-5-0 record to go along with a 2.29 goals against average and .923 save percentage. Despite a rough go in the postseason where his goals against average (3.10) soared and his save percentage (.899) declined, Andersen has the opportunity to put it behind him starting tonight.
After Gibson gave up six goals to the Penguins, it should come as no surprise that head coach Bruce Boudreau is going with Andersen tonight in Detroit. The two young goalies should remain in a platoon for the Ducks moving forward.
