Brad Stuart, Colorado Avalanche Agree to Two-Year Extension

Defenseman Brad Stuart and the Colorado Avalanche have agreed to a two-year, $7.2 million contract extension, according to TSN hockey analyst Darren Dreger.

The extension will keep Stuart, who has yet to play a game with the Avalanche, in Colorado through the 2016-2017 season.

Stuart, 34, spent two years with the San Jose Sharks before being traded this summer to the Avalanche for draft picks. He played in 61 games last season, tallying three goals and eight assists. It was Stuart’s second stint in San Jose as the Sharks drafted him in the first round (3rd overall) of the 1998 NHL draft. In 486 career games with the Sharks, Stuart registered 39 goals and 131 assists for 170 points.

The defenseman has also suited up for the Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings and Calgary Flames. Throughout his 14-year NHL career, Stuart has played in 985 games and has collected 322 points (77 G, 245 A).
