The P.K. Subban saga in Montreal is officially over.
The defenseman and the Montreal Canadiens agreed to terms on an eight-year deal, worth $72 million according to multiple reports. The new contract keeps Subban in Montreal through the 2021-2022 season.
After an arbitration hearing Friday, Subban and the Canadiens agreed to the deal before the ruling on Sunday. Throughout negotiations, Subban made it clear that he wanted to stay in Montreal long-term.

The new deal makes Subban, 25, the third-highest paid defenseman according to CapGeek.com. Only Shea Weber and Ryan Suter make more than Subban.
Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin is pleased to bring Subban back and loves what he brings to the table.
"(Subban is) a key element of our group of young veterans, P.K. plays with a high level of intensity every time he steps onto the ice. Despite his young age, he carries a great deal of experience and brings contagious energy to the team. Defensemen of his level are a rare commodity in the NHL.” – Bergevin in a statement on Saturday."
After winning the 2013 Norris Trophy as the league’s best defenseman, Subban responded with another solid season in 2013-2014, tallying 10 goals and contributing a career-high 43 assists. Subban led the Canadiens in playoff scoring as he registered 14 points (5 G, 9 A) in 17 games.
He also won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
