Its been a busier than usual week for the Anaheim Ducks this time of year. We recap some of the more interesting news items, combined with some random thoughts.

Time to catch up on recent happenings involving the Anaheim Ducks.

Item One – Eakins is Back

Dallas Eakins will be back behind the San Diego Gulls bench next season. He was signed to a multi-year extension on Monday. Eakins has GM Bob Murray‘s full support and may even be Plan B if current coach Randy Carlyle doesn’t get off to a good start next season. You can read more about it here.

Item Two -Miller has Surgery

The Anaheim Ducks announced that their backup goalie Ryan Miller underwent surgery last week. This procedure was performed to remove a bone fragment in his left wrist (catching hand). His recovery is expected to last for six weeks and he will be at camp on time.

Item Three – Pair of Ducks Win Gold

The IIHF World Championships ended on Sunday with Sweden defeating Switzerland in a 3-2 shootout win. Two of the Swedes key players were Anaheim Ducks Rickard Rakell and Hampus Lindholm. Ciara Durant has the full story here.

Item Four – New Assistant Coach

Marty Wilford was named to the Anaheim Ducks coaching staff. He replaces recently departed Trent Yawney on Anaheim’s bench. The coaching staff is now Randy Carlyle – Head Coach; Steve Konowalchuk, Mark Morrison, and Rich Preston – Assistant Coaches; Sudarshan Maharaj – Goalie Coach; and Joe Piscotty – Video Coach

Random Thoughts

Here are a few things that have been bouncing around my head.

  • I’m wondering how much of a bad taste the Ducks early playoff exit left in the player’s mouths.
  • I put it on twitter, but I’ll repeat it here.
  • Lou Lamoriello left the Toronto Maple Leafs organization to take over hockey operations for the New York Islanders. It prompts the question if the Isles front office doesn’t talk and the players are quiet on the ice, do they really exist?
  • If the Caps don’t win the Stanley Cup, Alex Ovechkin‘s career may go down as one with most unmet expectations.
  • Speaking of unmet expectations, Canada left the World Championships without a medal. Those who believe that Connor McDavid is not the second coming of Wayne Gretzky just got more ammo.
