Max Jones is in our prospect spotlight this week. Blake Navaro takes a closer look at the first of Anaheim Ducks two 2016 first round picks.

Max Jones is one of the most anticipated prospects in the Ducks system. It’s not just the 6’3″ frame that has the Ducks and fans excited. The Left shooting, Left Winger can score. He also has some experience on the International level. But injuries may be holding back Jones from taking the next step.

Selected in the first round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, the 24th overall pick currently is playing for the Kingston Frontenacs. Before being traded to Kingston, he played for the London Knights (Corey Perry‘s junior team). With London, he tallied 45 goals in a season and a half before the trade.

More from Pucks of a Feather

An injury has limited his time with Kingston, limiting him to only six games this season. His Juniors career has seen him score 149 goals dating back to 2010. Jones made a cameo in San Diego during last season’s AHL Playoffs. He played nine games and contributed a goal.

In 2018 Max played for Team USA at the World Junior Championships. He played in all 7 games for the United States. He had two points in 7 games. One of those points was a goal in the opening game against Denmark. He started the scoring in what eventually be the game winner in a 9-0 Team USA win. Max and the rest of boys went on to win Bronze at the tournament.

On the Way Up

Jones is currently signed to an Entry Level Contract with the Ducks which runs through the 2019-2020 season. We may see him next season in San Diego with the Gulls full time. His Junior eligibility expires after he turns 21.

There is also a chance that Jones could make the jump and play for the Ducks next season. To do so, he would have to beat out a regular Left Wing and make a strong pre-season impression. He also must overcome the injury he suffered this season.

Next: Our First Round Predictions

Anaheim Ducks fans are excited to see what Jones has to offer to this team. His big body could be useful in physical games. If things break the right way within the next two seasons, we could see Max Jones in a Ducks sweater.
