When Francois Beauchemin decided to join the Colorado Avalanche in free agency, the ‘A’ vacancy presented itself. Many thought that Cogliano, Bieksa and possibly even Fowler were candidates to fill that vacancy, but in the end the right man got the nod.
Kesler will join Corey Perry as an alternate captain and Ryan Getzlaf will obviously remain the captain.
Kesler is a true lead by example type of guy and he brings the same level of needed energy every night. Kesler served as an alternate captain last season when Perry or Beauchemin were injured and not in the lineup.
Overall, good move by the Ducks here, Kesler is extremely important to this team and his veteran leadership does not go unnoticed.
Congrats Ryan, now go celebrate with some almond milk!
