It is a 2 year deal worth $1.65 Million and it is a one-way contract.
Manson has one year remaining on his entry level contract that he signed before last season, so his extension does not kick in until the 2016-2017 season.

Manson is a former 6th round pick of the Ducks and will be 24 years of age when the upcoming season begins. He played at Northeastern University from 2011-2014 and spent a good portion of last season with the Ducks due to a number of injuries to Anaheim’s blue-line. In 28 games with the Ducks he produced 3 points and impressed as a strong and physical two-way defensemen. He is also the son of former NHL’er Dave Manson.
So what does this extension mean for Manson and the Ducks?
First, Manson has one year left on his entry level contract which is a two-way deal as most ELC’s are. This means that the Ducks can send Manson down to the AHL without having to clear him through waivers. Since he will play this upcoming season under the final year of that entry level contract, he may spend the majority of next season in San Diego with the Gulls. However, If he does spend time with the Ducks next season, his NHL level salary cap hit remains at $925,000.
When the 2016-2017 season begins, Manson’s extension kicks in as a one-way deal and he will no longer be able to play in San Diego without having to pass through waivers first. His cap hit for the ’16-’17 & ’17-’18 seasons will be $825,000.
When this upcoming seasons training camp rolls around, Manson will certainly have a chance to compete for a spot on the Ducks roster. Lindholm, Fowler, Bieksa, Despres, Vatanen and Stoner are the 6 defensemen with spots locked up right now, but Korbinian Holzer and Josh Manson look to be the guys who will battle to fill that 7th defensemen slot.
Holzer is on a one-way contract which makes things tricky but if Manson impresses, he could steal the job and start the season in Anaheim.
Holzer was acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs before last seasons trade deadline. He is 27 years of age and has 58 games of NHL experience with 9 career points. He has spent the majority of his career playing with the Toronto Marlies, the Maple Leafs AHL affiliate team. His salary cap hit for next season is $750,000.
Overall, Good deal here by the Ducks to get a cheap one-way deal done with Manson after he showed very promising signs of being a steady two-way blue-liner last season. This deal does not harm Ducks GM Bob Murray’s chances of re-signing any of his key free agents (Lindholm, Despres, Vatanen, Rakell, Andersen, Gibson, Sekac) that need new deals next summer.
