Now if only he could get nominated for the Hart Trophy . . . .

Pucks of a Feather would like to extend our congratulations to Ryan Getzlaf, who has been named as one of the finalists for the Mark Messier Leadership Award!

As the captain of the Anaheim Ducks since the 2010-2011 season, Getzlaf has helped guide the Ducks to two consecutive Western Conference titles, and once again led his team in points with 25-45-70 this season, the third straight season he has done so.

Of course, there is more to the Mark Messier Leadership Award than what the player does on the ice; displaying leadership off the ice is equally important.  Once again, Getzlaf excels in this area.  His annual Getzlaf Gold Shootout raised over $300,000 for CureDuchenne, a nonprofit organization that raises money and awareness for people who suffer from this disease, one of nine types of muscular dystrophy.  Getzlaf has also teamed up with Corey Perry to promote hockey in the Southern California area by supporting the Anaheim Ducks Learn to Play Program,

Aside from Ryan Getzlaf, Jonathan Toews (Chicago) and Andrew Ladd (Winnipeg) are also in the running for the award.

Of course, the Mark Messier Leadership Award is no Hart Trophy . . . more on that soon . . . but it is a sign of how well-respected Getzalf is in the NHL, so congratulations, Captain My Captain!
