The Anaheim Ducks defeated the Chicago Blackhawks by a final score of 7-1 and in the process, got their revenge, after a disappointing loss in Chicago just a week ago. In a rematch between Leo Carlsson and Connor Bedard, coupled by one of their most dominant games of the season, the Ducks asserted their position at the top of the Pacific Division.

Carlsson vs. Bedard: part two

Once again, Bedard and Carlsson entered the game with nearly identical point paces. Bedard had the slight edge with 39 points (18 goals, 21 assists), versus Carlsson with 36 points (14 goals, 22 assists).

However, after Bedard won the head-to-head battle in Chicago, Carlsson responded on home ice with a solid performance of his own.

With Carlsson and Bedard establishing themselves as franchise pillars, there is no doubt that this kind of see-saw battle between the two competitors will continue for years to come. And with Bedard making waves for a spot with Team Canada in the upcoming Winter Olympics and Carlsson having done everything possible this season to solidify a spot for Team Sweden, the franchise cornerstones might have more important faceoffs in the near future.

Utter Domination

Some impressive stats from the Ducks victory over the Blackhawks:

1) Entering the game, the Ducks were 14-1-0 when scoring 4 or more goals

2) The Ducks had not scored 50+ shots since 2014; they ended the game with 53 shots versus Chicago's 20

3) The Ducks are 4-3, since losing both Lukas Dostal and Petr Mrazek to injury

4) 14 different Ducks skaters ended the game with at least a point on the scoresheet

5) Frank Vatrano finally scored a goal again

6) With a goal and an assist, Beckett Sennecke was still leading the NHL rookies in scoring

Now the Ducks will head out on a long road trip to the east coast, beginning with a matchup against the Pittsburg Penguins on Tuesday. Do not expect the Ducks to score seven goals every game, but a matchup against Sidney Crosby and company always provides a good litmus test for the team.
