The Anaheim Ducks defeated the Dallas Stars by a final score of 7-5, to kick off a mini two-game road trip. In what has become a common theme recently, the game was filled with penalties. However, the Ducks came back from another two-goal deficit to send last year's Western Conference finalists home pointless in the standings.

First goal vibes

With Anaheim Ducks captain Radko Gudas still out of the lineup due to injury, rookie defenseman Ian Moore has stepped up in his absence. Appearing in his seventh game of the season, Moore has regularly played on the third pairing with Pavel Mintyukov. In just 82 minutes of ice time this season, Moore has posted a Corsi for percentage of nearly 58, which leads the team. For context, Mintyukov has a Corsi for percentage of 45, albeit with almost 100 more minutes of ice time.

In the second period against the Stars, Moore finally got rewarded for his steady play with his first NHL goal.

Not only was that Moore's first goal, but his first NHL point as well. Stick taps for regular fourth line center, Ryan Poehling, on the assist.

Special teams galore

Both teams combined for 10 power plays in the game, with Dallas converting on three of their opportunities (Wyatt Johnston twice and Mikko Rantanen) and Anaheim converting on two of their own (Chris Kreider and Olen Zellweger).

Leo Carlsson had his second shorthanded goal of the season, during one of the Dallas power play chances in the third period.

Mason McTavish tacked on an empty net goal at the end of the game, to reestablish a two-goal lead and ice the game.

The Ducks are in first and setting records

With the win, the Ducks secured first place in the Pacific Division. By the end of the game, Cutter Gauthier was tied with Sidney Crosby for the league lead in goals (11). According to the broadcast, the game against the Stars was the fourth time this season the Ducks have scored seven goals, which is a first in franchise history. The Ducks are only 13 games into the season, so they have a chance to build on that impressive record.
