As an expansion team with roots tied directly to a movie from the 1990s, the Anaheim Ducks have had their share of unique looks. With the recent announcement from the NHL about the upcoming "Hometown Remix" jerseys for the 2026-27 season and the Ducks rumor mill churning out concepts for an adaptation of the original Mighty Ducks movie jersey with a modern flair, now would be a good time to take a look back at some of the greatest looks in franchise history. Note that this ranking is entirely subjective; what we like is not necessarily what you like and vice versa. Practice/warmup jerseys do not count either. And in lieu of breaking down the minute details from year over year variations, we are going to lump jerseys into certain eras, when applicable. Let's dive in.
5. The Stanley Cup era home
This selection is definitely going to ruffle some feathers, as the iconic aesthetic of the original design was replaced by a more "mature" take on the Anaheim brand. The Samuelis wanted to distance themselves from the Disney influence and the Ducks were rebranded for the 2006-07 season. By dropping "Mighty" from the name and opting for an "Anaheim Ducks" wordmark design with an emphasis on a darker color pallet, the Ducks began to look like every other NHL team. However, there was no doubting the success of the team, as the Ducks captured their first Stanley Cup in the redesigned jerseys. Just by the simple fact that those jerseys were the ones worn by the Ducks during their greatest achievement in franchise history and have become synonymous with the celebration, the Stanley Cup era home jersey gets a place on the list.
4. The 2021 reverse retro
Much akin to the presumed upcoming look for the Ducks, the "Breakout" reverse retro jersey of 2021 took an infamously horrible concept and cleaned up the rough edges. Gone was jade as a primary color and the awkward striping on the sleeves. With white as the base color and a more defined striping pattern, the reverse retro design paid homage to the early days of the Ducks experimenting with unique ideas. Bonus points for retaining the use of the Mistral font for player numbers.
3. Current away
Despite the uproar from the fan base about returning to the original look, the current iteration of the Ducks jerseys is as close as we are ever going to get, while the Samuelis own the team. Instead of eggplant and jade, the Ducks have leaned heavily into the "Orange County" theme. While orange is not an original color in its own right, the Philadelphia Flyers can lay claim to that, it is still distinct enough to separate the Ducks from their Pacific Division counterparts. While the current home jersey has too much orange, the away jersey with white as the base color, at least allows the revamped "Wild Wing" logo to stand out.
2. Original away
With eggplant as the primary color and jade as a secondary, coupled with a diagonal striping pattern and the "Wild Wing" crest, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim stood out from the rest of their peers. Although, the Mighty Ducks may have struggled out of the gate initially in their non-conforming look, they slowly built themselves into one of the unlikeliest Stanley Cup contenders. It's a look no other NHL team has tried since and one etched into the annals of nostalgic Ducks lore.
