Anaheim Ducks Player to Watch: Daniel Sprong

Last week, in a not so surprising trade, the Anaheim Ducks traded Marcus Pettersson to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for the young right wing, Daniel Sprong.

The Ducks were looking to add both speed and scoring to their line up. Sprong brings both, although his role with the Pens was reduced significantly when he was placed on the fourth line and often the victim of being a healthy scratch.

In his 45 NHL games with the Penguins, he produced 9 total points, which gives us more insight as to why he was traded. However, again, a player of his caliber can’t do much when he’s on the fourth line.

Since his first game with the Anaheim Ducks, he has made a big impression. In three games, he has had 10 shots on goal. He has one of the best shots on the team. If you don’t believe me, ask our contributor Jonathan Maxfield, and he will convince you otherwise.

He is absolutely electric on his skates, adding both energy and speed to the Anaheim Ducks roster. It didn’t take him long to start putting up points either. He scored his first goal as a Duck during their game against Chicago, just twenty seconds after Brandon Montour‘s wicked wrist shot that put the Ducks on the board first.

During the Ducks Monday game against New Jersey, he scored the shootout goal that put them ahead. Ryan Getzlaf stole the second goal; the two of them leading the team to a 6-5 victory.

Dallas Stars Player to Watch: Tyler Seguin

Our sister page, Blackout Dallas, wrote a wonderful piece about Tyler Seguin and his difficulty producing a goal against the Anaheim Ducks. This is the only team he has yet to score a goal against in his nine-season career, as I mentioned earlier.

He is the Dallas Stars best player, leading the team in points, with 26 in 30 games (8g, 18a.) Seguin may not have any goals against the Ducks, but in their first game with the Stars, he has two assists credited to his name.

He is really good at outsmarting other players, and that has been evident when he is on the ice with the Ducks. If Anaheim doesn’t keep an eye on him, this could very well be the game where he finally scored a goal against them.
