Anaheim Ducks: A New Hope

Tonight, the Anaheim Ducks ring in their last home game before Christmas by bringing the “Starwars” spirit to Honda Center. A coincidence they’re playing the Dallas Stars? I think not.

The Anaheim Ducks and the Dallas Stars meet tonight for their third and final contest of the regular season. So far, the Stars are up 2-0, having won both of their home games against the Ducks earlier in the season.

With the absence of players like Rickard Rakell and Cam Fowler, the team is going to have to kick it into high gear. Although the Dallas Stars are also suffering from injuries, this doesn’t make it any easier for the Ducks.

They must also make sure they do a decent job protecting goaltender John Gibson. In their past games this season, the Stars have had the tendency to run into him or get a little too close for comfort. With Ryan Miller out with a sprained MCL, they cannot afford to lose Gibson. Especially with the schedule they have coming up.

With the Dallas Stars forward group completely healthy, the Anaheim Ducks definitely need to be wary when they are on the ice. The top line of Valeri Nichushkin, Tyler Seguin, and Alexander Radulov is absolutely lethal and has shaken up the Ducks in games past.

Going forward, “a new hope” has arisen. The Ducks have finally seemed to find their identity and chemistry on the ice. If they can continue to play with focus and determination, there is a chance they could snuff out the Stars tonight.
