The Case For:

Both Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry were taken by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the now legendary 2003 draft. Both remained in juniors until they suited up in the AHL for the 2005-06 season. Getzlaf spent just 17 games there before his call-up, whereas Perry spent 19. They never looked back after that.

Getz and Pears have been major contributors to the Ducks from the second they touched the ice on Katella Ave. Their resumes are certainly sparkling and here are is a snapshot of each:

Ryan Getzlaf: Career 247-628-875/ GP 917, Stanley Cup Champion during the 2006-07 season, eight years and counting as captain, three-time NHL All-Star, Ducks all-time leader in playoff points. In the end, Getzlaf could eclipse 1000 games, 1000 points, and 300 goals. He will have been the Ducks captain for over a decade when he calls it a career and hangs up his skates.

Corey Perry: Career 366-400-766/ GP 957, Stanley Cup Champion during the 2006-07 season, Rocket Richard Award winner, Hart Trophy winner, four-time NHL All-Star, and second all-time in playoff points. Perry will easily eclipse 1000 games this season and could ultimately reach 800-850 points and 400 total goals.

Both of these guys have been leading the Ducks for a while, and it’s no secret that as they go the team goes. Is that resume enough? Paul Kariya is getting his number retired and these two have passed him in points. They also have their name on a Cup for the Ducks. So on paper, it should be enough, right?
