4. Ducks Beat Kings at Dodger Stadium

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Questions and doubts were immediately tossed around after the NHL announced the Ducks and Kings would do battle at Dodger Stadium.

“What? Hockey in Southern California? Hockey outside in Southern California? I’ll believe it when I see it.”

What they saw was a fantastic show put on by the NHL and Los Angeles. With both music and hockey legends on hand, fans were treated to something special.

Even more special if you were a Ducks fan.

Anaheim jumped out to a two-goal lead in the first period on goals by Corey Perry and Matt Beleskey. Then it became the Jonas Hiller show.

The Swiss netminder turned away all 36 shots thrown his way to keep the Kings’ side of the scoreboard empty. Andrew Cogliano put the frosting on the cake with an empty-net goal and the Ducks won the NHL’s first outdoor game in California 3-0 in front of crowd of 54,099 at Dodger Stadium.
