Hockey players have all kinds of different rituals on game day. Some players enjoy a certain pre-game meal before hitting the ice. Some will put their pads and uniform on in a particular order for every game while some might wear a particular necklace during the game. Some players won’t skate over the blue line in the pre-game warmup and certain players will stay on the ice until they are the last one. Many fans have game day rituals just like their favorite athletes.
For each game day, I put my Anaheim Ducks flag out in front of my house, in the morning, before I leave for work. If I am watching the game at home I wear my favorite Teemu Selanne shirt. I have to sit on the couch on the left side next to the arm rest. I put my phone on the arm rest to follow all the twitter noise from the Anaheim Ducks’ fans during the game. I also have to stay in this position for each period only getting up to go to the bathroom in between periods.
When I go to the Honda Center, I wear my Selanne shirt. I then wear my long sleeve Anaheim Ducks shirt over that and then, finally, a Ducks jersey. The very last item I have to take with me is my Duck call. Some people love me for bringing it and others get annoyed. I try to keep the noise to a minimum. My wife and I park across Katella Ave, at the Sheriff’s parking lot; we figure our car will be safe there. Once in the stadium we have to be in our seats before the national anthem. I stay in my seat for the entire game except between the periods.
Anaheim Ducks fans have a variety of rituals. Some like to play the Pennywise “Bro Hymn” song while driving to the game. Others put car flags up and wear their favorite jersey, despite the stains on it. Some of my friends wear the same Anaheim Ducks’ hat to every game. I know some fans bring the “Fowl Towels”, carrying them in their pants pocket. I have heard some lady Ducks fans wear a certain necklace at all times for fear of jinxing the team.
So Anaheim Ducks’ fans what are your game day rituals at home or at the game?
