Andersen was poised to try and take full command of the starting role in Norfolk during his second professional season. Little did he know he would only start in four AHL games. His four games looked good as he posted a 3-1 record with a 1.96 GAA, .939 SV% and one shutout.

He would then be called up to Anaheim as Viktor Fasth was sidelined virtually all year due to different injuries. Andersen would get his first NHL action on Oct. 20 in a relief appearance of Jonas Hiller at home against Dallas. After Hiller allowed 3 goals in the first period. Andersen would shut out the Stars for the final 2 periods en route to a 6-3 win and his first NHL win.

Andersen would go on to win his next five games before taking a loss, but would win nine of his first 10 NHL games.  Andersen would continue to play well and play more and more as the season continued.

It became increasingly obviously that he was becoming the goalie in Anaheim as he played some pivotal games in March and into April. John Gibson got his turn in net too, especially down the stretch with Anaheim solidifying its’ seed for the playoffs, but when the playoffs began it was Andersen who would get the nod.

The stat line is really good especially with it being Andersen’s first NHL season. The 20 wins in 28 games played is exceptional and the calmness he showed in most games is something to love. The GAA is a tad high in my opinion but by no means a red flag and something I think will be lowered next season
