What a difference a year can make. If you told Frederik Andersen how his 2013-2014 season was to unfold he probably would’ve thought you were crazy.
As the 13-14’ season began Andersen must have felt his position was solidified as the starting or potentially co-starting goalie for the Norfolk Admirals. With the Ducks set up well with the veteran presence of Jonas Hiller and remarkable rookie season of Viktor Fasth, there was little chance of Andersen leaving the east coast this season.
With only one AHL season under his belt, that seemed like a good spot to be in to allow him to grow to learn the North American game. Though Andersen’s numbers were good in Europe, it’s a completely different animal playing in North America.
He would also be in a good goalie battle against who some consider the best goaltending prospect in the game in John Gibson for starting duties. Andersen is still battling Gibson but now they are both battling while wearing the webbed D.
