Yesterday, Jonas Hiller was named to Team Switzerland’s roster for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. Hiller joined Cam Fowler as Ducks heading to Sochi. Today, five more Ducks were given the call to join their national teams to compete for gold. Most notably, Team Canada announced their Olympic roster, amid some pretty confusing choices, both Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry were named to the roster and both will participate in their second straight Olympics. Along with Canada, Finland, Latvia, Slovakia and Sweden all announced their Olympic rosters today. The Ducks did not have any players named to either Slovakia or Latvia, for obvious reasons. However, three others were named to their countries Olympic roster. Legend Teemu Selanne was named to Finland’s Olympic roster for the 6th time in his career, matching fellow Finnish legend Raimo Helminen for most appearance’s by a men’s hockey player in Olympic ice hockey tournament history. Joining Teemu will be Ducks youngster Sami Vatanen. Sami is having a very solid season and he has the potential to be named to the Finnish Olympic roster more than once. Finally, Jakob Silfverberg was named to Team Sweden’s Olympic roster. He’s looked good at times but he still hasn’t gotten into a rhythm since coming back from his long injury.
