Ruslan Salei Honored

facebooktwitterreddit

Much like the New Jersey Devils did last season, the Ducks will be honoring Ruslan Salei’s memory by wearing a patch on their jersey.

As I’m sure you all remember, Salei was tragically killed in a plane crash on Sept. 7, 2011 with the KHL’s Lokomotiv Yaroslavl team. The Ducks selected him 9th overall in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, where he compiled 105 points in 594 games.

The patch will be worn starting on their home opener on October 14th. It will be on their home, away and third jerseys. The “Limited Edition” jerseys will be worn through Nov. 17 vs. Los Angeles and then be auctioned off at the 12th annual Dux in Tux on Nov. 18, and a future online auction at AnaheimDucks.com. No date has been announced yet as to when the online auction will be.

Proceeds from the auctions will benefit both the Anaheim Ducks Foundation and a charity selected by the Salei family, which is currently unknown.

A great idea to honor an NHL great.
