Gauthier is closing in on a 40-goal season, the first time for a Ducks player in more than a decade

The second year forward has shown early on in his career that he will be an elite goal scorer, and eclipsing 40 goals would only give more credence to that notion.

Let’s take a look at Montreal for a moment. On Tuesday, March 17, Cole Caufield scored his 40th goal of the season. He became the first Canadiens player to record a 40-plus goal campaign since Vincent Damphousse in 1993-94. That was over 32 years ago, and it got me thinking, “Cutter must be getting close to 40 now…”

Now, back to the boys in orange. Gauthier has 35 goals thus far in 67 games. Clicking at just over half a goal per game and well on pace to break 40. Anaheim has 14 games remaining and is surely looking to younger players such as Gauthier, Beckett Sennecke, and Leo Carlsson to drive them toward securing a playoff berth.

Not only does Gauthier have an impressive goal output at .52 goals per game, but he also has scored a scorching 12 goals in the last 14 games, as of Wednesday, March 18. As well, he is the owner of six multi-goal games this season, including his first career hat trick scored on November 4, 2025, vs Florida at Honda Center.

Cementing a place in history

If Gauthier can keep up his scoring pace and reach the milestone, he would be the first Duck since 2013-14 to score 40 plus. The last player was Corey Perry with 43 that year. The latter was the most prolific  goal scorer in Anaheim since the 2010s, before his departure in the summer of 2019. I digress, but this is all to say that Gauthier is one of the most electric and dangerous snipers the Ducks have had in recent memory. He should be a leader in the goal-scoring category in Anaheim for many years to come.

Aside from his goals, Gauthier is also producing at nearly a point per game with 61 points, leading the team in this as well as goals. While it doesn’t translate directly, this is no surprise as Gauthier had been a lethal scorer in the NCAA prior to his rookie season in 2024-25. During his time at Boston College, he had 102 points in only 73 games. Leading the Soaring Eagles to a Hockey East title and a trip to the Frozen Four tournament in 2024.

Final thoughts

The bottom line here is that as a fan, I have been loving every minute of seeing Cutter Gauthier score. He has transitioned seamlessly into the NHL game and has quickly become a cornerstone piece in this Ducks team that I would say is getting closer to a contending window in the next couple of years.
