The Anaheim Ducks season is quickly coming to its conclusion. As their season comes to an end, our rant week is just beginning.

Hello, again folks, Jake Robles here! I’m bringing you guys the first entry in our Anaheim Ducks rant week here at Pucks of a Feather. With the exception of April 6th, this week will be filled with all kinds of takes and feelings from various members of our staff. Without further ado, let’s get into this.

Before I let loose, I just want to make it clear that I’ve embraced the tank and wholeheartedly want a really high draft pick, but man did this season just has just sucked any faith I had in this team out of me.

I went into this year with the belief that we’d be a little banged up and wounded to start the year again, as we’ve become accustomed to, but where did things go so wrong? The easy thing to do is point the finger at the choice in coaches and I’ll give you that. Carlyle’s leash should’ve been a whole heck of a lot shorter and Bob Murray should’ve stepped in before the damage was irreparable. However, these things didn’t happen.

Instead, we’ve spent months trotting out a lineup that should win a good amount of games with all the talent it holds but gets embarrassed by teams like LA, New York, Detroit, etc. I think if I hadn’t have been a spectator for about 75% of this season’s home games, I wouldn’t be as frustrated as I’ve been.

I applaud Bob for owning up to the fact that he made some mistakes but saying; “Hey, my bad guys. I goofed, sorry about that.” doesn’t make me feel good about spending about $520 on season seats. It makes me feel dumb.

Today is April Fools Day. It’s the one day of the year where it’s universally known that people are gonna try to mislead each other for fun. I wish that this season was just one huge prank and Ashton Kutcher came running out of Zamboni corner telling us we’d all been Punk’d. Yet, alas, here we are, April 1st, rooting for the Ducks to lose so we can at least fall to a place where we get lower than the 10th overall draft pick.

I’m not mad, anymore, at least, I’m just disappointed. It’s hard being a Negative Nancy about a team you want to succeed so badly. I know the Ducks aren’t gonna always contend for a Stanley Cup. No team is without their faults and that’s just not how hockey teams operate in this current era of the NHL.

Nobody is perfect, but no matter how many jokes I make about the team, or how I rag GMBM for trading guys like Pontus Aberg whom I grow attached to, I love this team and that won’t change. I’m not going to name names here but I mean it could always be worse! Besides, in the wise words of former Anaheim Ducks goaltender, Ilya Bryzgalov, “it’s only a game, why you heff to be mad?”
