Anaheim Ducks: Jakob Silfverberg’s New Contract Isn’t Slowing Him Down
The week has ended for the Anaheim Ducks, and while the entire team has taken significant steps forward, only three can earn one of our Three Stars of the Week.
It’s been a rather up and down week for the Anaheim Ducks, with two wins and just as many losses. However, in recent weeks, we’ve definitely seen a different team before our eyes. While it may not be enough to take them back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, it’s a step in the right direction. Although the entire team has taken big steps as a unit, there are three players this week who stand out above the rest.
Honorable Mention — Adam Henrique (4 Goals)
After taking a considerable amount of heat for his lack of production this season, Adam Henrique seems to have gotten back on track in the past few weeks. His name, for the time being, is no longer associated with trade rumors but instead has been making its way onto the score sheet.
In this week’s four games, Henrique scored a total of four goals, including an impressive two-goal night during the 8-2 blow out the Montreal Canadiens suffered at the hands of the Anaheim Ducks.
The chemistry between Henrique and his linemate, Troy Terry has seemingly blossomed into a dangerous partnership that other teams need to be wary of. The third line seems to be a good place for Henrique and has taken the pressure off of him just a little bit. His place on the third line has also allowed him to come alongside the younger players, like Troy Terry and Daniel Sprong, and guide them as they learn to find their way in the NHL. He has been a terrific mentor and voice of reason; a position that suits his style of leadership well.
Third Star — Max Jones (1 Goal)
While Adam Henrique might have had a better week production wise, Max Jones‘ first NHL goal is a topic that has been talked about quite a bit around Ducks Nation over the past few days. There is something so refreshing about watching a rookie score his first goal, especially considering how long Jones had been waiting for this moment.
Night after night, the young left-wing was snake bitten. Several beautiful opportunities had been stolen from him from overzealous goaltenders. Finally, with 30 seconds left in regulation, he scored his first NHL goal against Carey Price and the Montreal Canadiens. His celebration was well worth the wait, as he raised his eyes and hands to the heavens and sheer joy and relief washed over him.
Second Star — Troy Terry (2 Goals, 5 Assists)
21-year-old Troy Terry has had one of the best weeks of his NHL career. Seven points over a span of three games is rather impressive for a rookie in his first season of the NHL. His performance this week even earned him his very first nomination for the NHL’s third star of the week.
After two consecutive three-point nights, he became the first rookie in the Anaheim Ducks 25 year history to accomplish this feat. What started off as a difficult season for Terry has turned into a season full of amazing milestones and accomplishments.
First Star — Jakob Silfverberg (2 Goal, 3 Assist)
Since signing his new contract, many though Jakob Silfverberg might get comfortable and complacent, thinking his production might decrease. On the contrary, Jakob Silfverbeg has been on a five-game scoring streak with has included 3 goals and 4 assists.
He still holds the post as the Anaheim Ducks leading goal scorer, with 19 so far this season. His recent influx of points has also hoisted him to third in points on the entire team, just sitting slightly below Ryan Getzlaf and Adam Henrique.
Putting Silfverberg in a more offensive role has done him wonders this season and it has been fantastic seeing him take on this new role in stride. We can only imagine what he might be able to do next season in the same role with a team that is more cohesive and consistent throughout the entire season.
