The Verdict:

So, with valid points on both sides, where do they land? Is it fair to drop the past Game 7 problems square on Getz and Pears? Though they are the leadership of the team they are just two players. A team needs everyone playing at a high level. Teams win championships in the NHL, not just the players.

They have had incredible careers at this point. Both of them still have another three to four years left where I think they can play at the same high level. I have written at length about my feelings of a Corey Perry bounce back. I also think Getzlaf will be motivated to get things done after being so close the last few years.

I also believe, with the other veterans on this team; Ryan Kesler, Patrick Eaves, Adam Henrique etc, Getzlaf and Perry we’ll have extra motivation to take the Ducks all the way. While on that topic, another Stanley Cup is what it will take for #15 and #10 to be absolute locks for jersey retirement. They are close right now. Maybe even, already there. However, they need to be top players on a second Anaheim Cup team to cement their case.
