Goalie- J.S. Giguere

J.S Giguere is, without a doubt, the best Ducks goalie at this point in their history. There may be a certain goalie that hails from Pittsburgh that will usurp him one day, but that remains to be seen. Giguere has a story that resembles a certain baseball slugger who is now infamous in my hometown of Boston. In a similar way to how the Red Sox acquired scrap heap player David Ortiz, so did the Ducks with Giguere.

Giggy was a spending most of his time in the AHL with the Hartford Whalers/Carolina Hurricanes and Calgary Flames organizations. It wasn’t until 2000 when the Mighty Ducks sent a second round pick to Calgary for Giguere’s services. Anaheim knew they would have to move on from longtime starter Guy Hebert sooner rather than later. They identified Giguere as his replacement and it may have been one of the best trades in franchise history.

Giguere became the Ducks starter during the 2001-02 season and never looked back. From there, he led the Ducks to three Western Conference Finals, two Stanley Cup Finals, and won the Cup with them in 2007.

In his 8 year tenure, which comprised of 447 games, Giguere posted a record of 206-163-59 with a 2.47 GAA and a .914 SV%. His games played, wins, and shutouts (32) rank first all-time for the Ducks, with his GAA sitting third amongst Ducks starters and his Sv% sitting fourth.

Giguere was a steadying force back then. He vastly improved upon the play of Hebert which led to some great goaltenders after him. Giguere is a Cup champion, Conn Smythe winner, and one day his #35 should hang in the rafters of Honda Center.
