5 – Guy Hebert (1993-2000)

Guy Hebert was the first goaltender for the then, Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Selected from St. Louis in the 1993 expansion draft, Hebert was a quality netminder during his seven-plus year stint in SoCal.

His record was less than stellar overall. He finished with a 173-202-52 record, but his 173 victories still rank second all-time behind only J.S Giguere’s 206. Hebert also holds high all-time numbers with the Ducks such as his 27 total shut-outs, which ranks second, and a 2.76 GAA which ranks 4th among goalies starting at least 100 games.

Hebert best season came in 1997. In addition to his All-Star selection, he led the Ducks to their first post-season berth and first playoff series win (over the Phoenix Coyotes 4-3). Hebert had a strong playoff debut with  2.02 GAA and a .929 Sv%. Unfortunately, this was the pinnacle of Heberts time with Anaheim, as they would only make the playoffs one more time during his tenure.

His departure from SoCal was unceremonious, he was placed on waivers midway through the 2000-2001 season. It was a tough break for the Ducks first ever goaltender but they needed to move on. The Anaheim teams he was a part of where finding their pond legs as it were and it was time to turn to a younger man.

He was the start and the Ducks have certainly built from the foundation he left.
