There were a lot of question marks when it came to Anaheim’s young collection of blueliners at the start of this postseason.  You can excuse Ducks fans for being a bit worried about its defensemen: with five players age 27 or younger manning the blueline, it was a valid concern.

After leading all teams when it comes to points from D-men, however, it is clear that defense will be a strength heading into next season.   Yes, Anaheim’s defenders were often a bit too aggressive when they pinched the boards, resulting in at least two goals in Game 6 on plays that should have never have produced a shot on goal.

Ducks fans should be especially excited to watch the developing careers of Simon Despres, Sami Vatanen, and Hampus Lindholm.  These three guys played above their age and experience level in these playoffs, and will only continue to get better and more confident, particularly Lindholm, who earned some high praise from his teammates:

Comparing to Lindholm to Duncan Keith is high praise, obviously, but the kid is good, and just getting started.  If you’re not excited about that, beat it.
