With nine goals in eight games Corey Perry is on pace to achieve a feat only held by five previous players.

Maurice Richard, Mike Bossy, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Brett Hull are the only players to have scored 50 goals in their teams first 50 games. Is it possible Corey Perry will join the list come the 50th game of the season?

I wouldn’t say it’s impossible, but there is a reason only five players have achieved such a record. To put it in perspective, Corey Perry would have to do something he has done only once in his career in 32 less games than when he first scored 50 goals back in 2010-2011.

Compared to his start in 2010-2011, Corey Perry has scored his first eight goals of the season in 12 fewer games. Scoring eight in seven games this season compared to eight in 19 games.

On his fast start, Perry said “‘Things are going well and the whole team has been playing well. It’s not just me…Good things are happening. I’m shooting the puck and it’s going in.”

Head Coach Bruce Boudreau also had his say on the matter, stating ”Corey is one of the best scorers in the game. And when you have that touch, the puck follows you… when you’re a natural goal-scorer like he is, the puck tends to find your stick and good things happen.”

Although it’s only eight games into the season Corey Perry has nine goals and two hat-tricks to start the season. If he continues at this pace then he may just join the 50 in 50 club.
