The Florida Panthers and defenseman Aaron Ekblad, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, have agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract.
Florida announced the news Wednesday morning.
Ekblad, 18, played three seasons in the OHL with the Barrie Colts. Last season, Ekblad tallied 53 points (23 G, 30 A) in 58 games. As a result of his performance, he was named the best defenseman in the OHL.
The native of Windsor has also suited up for Canada at the international level. At the 2014 IIHF U20 Junior Championships, Ekblad collected two points in seven contests.
