NHL Jobs Report: What’s up for grabs in the Pacific Division – Allan Muir, SI.com
"First-line left wing: In a perfect world, Dany Heatley becomes GM Bob Murray‘s version of a winning lottery ticket, turning a $1 million investment into a viable winger who can chip in 20-25 goals alongside Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry and establish himself as a physical presence on the power play."
The first-line left wing slot has been a revolving door in Anaheim since Bobby Ryan was shipped to Ottawa last summer. If the Ducks were getting the Dany Heatley from a few seasons ago, this wouldn’t even be up for debate. But after three subpar seasons in the Twin Cities, Heatley isn’t guaranteed anything in Anaheim.
He, along with Matt Beleskey, Patrick Maroon, Devante Smith-Pelly, and practically everyone at Bruce Boudreau‘s disposal, will be fighting for the right to play with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry.
The 10 most fascinating NHL players in 2014-2015 – Greg Wyshynski, Yahoo! Sports
"Heatley signed a 1-year, $1-million contract with the Anaheim Ducks. If he flops, no harm, no foul … they’ll just part ways, and Heatley can get on with his career in the KHL and/or signing things at memorabilia shows. But what if he excels?"
I thought Ryan Kesler was the Ducks’ biggest offseason acquisition? While that still holds true, perhaps the most talked about and debated move was the signing of Heatley. Everyone knows what you’re getting in Kesler. But what about the former 50-goal scorer? Heatley will certainly be a player to watch in 2014-2015.
