If there is one spot where Corey Perry has maybe not lived up to expectations it’s in the playoffs.

Perry was great in his first two postseasons in 05-06, and when the Ducks won the Cup in 06-07. Those two postseasons combined saw Perry’s line read, 6-12-18 with 15 of those 18 points the Cup winning year. Since then Perry has had varying levels of success in the playoffs but this is a game of what have you done for me lately. In Perry’s case not a lot.

Last year when the Ducks were taken down in seven games by the Detroit Red Wings, Perry only managed two assists. This season was better and showed signs of Perry getting his game rolling in the playoffs. He picked up 11 points with four of them being goals. His gem in the postseason was Game 5 against Dallas were he picked up a goal and two assists.

The issue was of Perry’s 11 points only four came against LA in the second round where the Ducks fell. Yes you can make the argument that as the Ducks are currently constituted Perry is keyed in on more, or you see better teams in the playoffs who can defend better. Yes those are all true but bottom line the Ducks need Perry to perform in the playoffs to get over the hump and to a second Cup.
