The news came just before puck drop of Game 4 to the shock of many. Ryan Getzlaf, only a few days removed from a dominating Game 2 performance when he lead the Anaheim Ducks with a goal and assist in a 3-2 win, would be scratched for Game 4.
Getzlaf returned to Anaheim to receive treatments for an “upper-body” injury. The Ducks, as well as Getzlaf, have been tight-lipped about the injury.
He is questionable for Game 5 tonight in Anaheim.
"I’m really not going to discuss what exactly is going on. I do know that it’s questionable for tomorrow. It’s not in my nature at all to step away from the game unless someone forces me to. It’s been tough and not easy to deal with.” – Getzlaf while talking to reporters."
Just before the final horn in Game 1, Getzlaf took a slap shot to the face and immediately skated off. He was diagnosed with a deep facial laceration, but returned a few nights later for Game 2.
The Ducks’ captain finished second in the NHL in scoring with 87 points and is in the running for the Hart Trophy as league MVP.
