According to Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register, Ryan Getzlaf suffered a deep facial laceration after he was hit in the face by a slap shot, but he is expected to play in Game 2 against the Dallas Stars on Friday night the Ducks announced.
In the waning moments of Game 1, Getzlaf was struck in the face and immediately collapsed to the ice. He skated straight to the Ducks’ bench and into the locker room.
Anaheim held on in the final 16.3 seconds to take Game 1 4-3 to give the Ducks a 1-0 series lead.
Getzlaf received stitches and his x-rays came back negative, which will allow him to suit up and play in Game 2.
Prior to the injury, Getzlaf was having a fantastic game as he scored his first goal of the postseason and assisting on another.
Getzlaf is in the running for the Hart Trophy after having a spectacular season, finishing with 31 goals and 56 assists to give him a team-high 87 points on the season.
