Ducks’ Daily: 3/2/13
It’s GAME DAY again! The Anaheim Ducks are set to host the Carolina Hurricanes tonight and it should be a good game. To get you ready for this evening’s much-up, here is today’s news!
Yesterday, the Ducks extended Tim Jackman for another year. The 32-year-old right-winger received a modest raise from $612,500 per year to $637,500. Jackman isn’t a big points guy, but he’s a good fourth line guy who is responsible.
We do have some bad news to report, and you won’t read this anywhere else yet. Sami Vatanen was checked hard into the boards in the first period and took some time to get up, while play continued. He did make his way to the bench unassisted though he did NOT bear weight on his left knee. His face showed the extreme pain is was feeling. the first whistle after the hit he and the trainer left the bench; AHL benches don’t connect straight to the dressing rooms. Vatanen did not return to the game. The hit appeared as though Vatanen’s knees were assisted in buckling, causing him to go down harder. There was no penalty called on the play. This does change the way things could shape up as we close in on the trade deadline…
The good news from the Admirals game last night was their convincing win over the Manchester Monarchs! This makes four straight wins and ties the Admirals for first place in the Eastern Division with the Binghamton Senators. The local news has some great highlights of the goals. For the complete box scores you can look here. The Monarchs chose to start Jean-Fracois Berube, yes it’s a name you recognize from the L.A. Kings.
There you have it folks, your daily news and links. Let’s get ready to cheer on the Ducks and go wild! If you go to the game tonight, make sure you tweet us pictures from your seat! @pucksofafeather
