Ducks Daily: 3/1/14

Good Morning Anaheim Ducks’ fans!!! How does it feel to get such a big win after the Olympic break?! How about the fifth shut out this season for Jonas Hiller?! That’s good stuff. So let’s round-up today’s news.

As if the rumors had any real life to them, the Ducks will not be making a trade with the New York Rangers for defenseman Dan Girardi. The deal was signed yesterday to keep Girardi in New York for six more years. The Ducks now have to look elsewhere if they plan to acquire some veteran blue line assistance for the team. Perhaps the east is a good place to keep looking…

In a huge trade, the St. Louis Blues had a major roster change before last night’s game. Jaroslav Halak was announced as the starter against the Ducks, merely hours before game time the news broke that he would be hitching a ride to Buffalo with a host of other players and some draft picks. Maybe the Ducks dodged a bullet on that last-minute trade not happening sooner. Only time will tell with this one.

As I mentioned, Hiller earned his fifth shut out of the season last night. This ties his single season record and there is still a fair amount of play remaining before the playoffs begin.

The Norfolk Admirals hosted the Manchester Monarchs, AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, last night and came away with a huge win. The Monarch’s are the number one team in the division. You can catch up on the action here. The same teams meet again tonight at 7:15pm eastern.

Keep your eyes peeled for any other trade news that may break today, the deadline is rapidly approaching! Wear your smile today, the Ducks are winners! It’s never too early to look forward to tomorrow’s game!
