(drum roll) And the new ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks is the…..
Memphis
Utah Grizzlies! Congratulations, the Ducks are now linked to Mormons. Oh boy.
The Ducks announced the multi-year affiliation contract with the Grizzlies earlier today. The Grizzlies play their home games in West Valley City, Utah, which is a suburb of Salt Lake City. In fact, West Valley City is the second biggest city, population-wise, in the state of Utah and the city also took part in the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games. The Maverik Center, home of the Grizzlies, was the main ice hockey venue for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. It has a capacity of just over 10,000. The Grizzlies joined the ECHL in 2005-06 with an all-time record of 247-254-62 in 589 career games. They have made the ECHL playoffs each of the last six seasons, but the farthest they have reached is the Conference Finals. The Grizzlies will replace the Fort Wayne Komets, who replaced the Elmira Jackals, who replaced the Bakersfield Condors, who replaced the Augusta Lynx.
