Loveland, CO – The Fort Wayne Komets (26-21-2) played a very physical game Friday night. The K’s took the Eagles (23-22-1) to task during the second period with two fights. They also hit Colorado where it hurt the most; the scoreboard.
First Period
The opening frame saw plenty of penalties against the Komets. The first penalty was dual penalties to Fort Wayne. The Eagles Steve Haddon netted his fourth of the year to open the scoring at the 3:30 mark. Eric Giosa opened the Komets scoring by notching his 10th of the year four minutes later. The K’s continued to put the biscuit in the basket with a Garret Klotz goal 9:30 into the frame. Brett Smith netted his 11th of the year less than a minute later. Colorado was undeterred by tying the game up on two power play goals within five minutes of each other. Brandon Marino put the K’s back in the lead with his 15th of the year with 40 seconds left in the period.
Second Period
The middle frame saw two fights. The first was between Klotz and Cody Sol 3:25 into the middle frame. The next was between J.M. Rizk and Eagles forward A.J. Hau near the midway point in the game. After the snow settled, the Eagles got the equalizer on Joey Sides 19th of the year with 7:27 left. Ryan Hagarty put the K’s up for good on a short handed goal three minutes later.
Third Period
Matt Firman opened the scoring on a power play goal at the 5:16 mark. Colorado tried to mount a comeback, but only scored a power play goal late.
