Fort Wayne Center Corey Elkins ECHL’s Player Of The Week

Fort Wayne, IN – The ECHL announced today that center Corey Elkins is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 6, 2013.
Elkins, reassigned to Fort Wayne by the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL from the AHL’s Norfolk Admirals on New Year’s Day, registered points in each of his first four games with the Komets last week for a four-game point streak of three goals and three assists while posting a plus/minus of +5.

Elkins, 27, assisted on the first goal of the game, scored the game winning tally and posted a +3 in the Komets’ 4-2 home win Wednesday against Gwinnett in his ECHL debut with Fort Wayne.  The West Bloomfield, Michigan native scored a goal in the Komets’ 4-2 loss to Cincinnati Friday before dishing two assists in a 5-4 win at Cincinnati Saturday.  Sunday the center scored his second game winning goal of the week in a 3-2 home win against Orlando.

Elkins began this season appearing in 24 games with Norfolk netting three goals and four points after signing a one-year deal with Anaheim on July 29, 2012.
