Fort Wayne, IN —The ECHL announced today that defenseman Daniel Maggio will represent the Fort Wayne Komets at the 2013 ECHL All-Star game Jan. 23 at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colorado, home of the ECHL’s Colorado Eagles.
Maggio, 23, is one of nine rookies selected to this year’s All-Star Team. The defenseman made his pro debut with the Komets last season skating in all 15 playoff games and netting two goals and five points en route to the 2012 CHL Presidents’ Cup Championship. The LaSalle, Ontario native was selected by the New York Rangers in the sixth round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Maggio completed five seasons of play in the OHL last year, finishing with Oshawa before joining Fort Wayne for the 2012 CHL playoffs.
Maggio leads Komet defensemen with four goals and 14 points after 32 games this season and ranks first among ECHL defensemen with 119 penalty minutes.
The 2013 ECHL All-Star Week, presented by CCM, begins on Tuesday, Jan. 22 with the ECHL All-Star Skills Competition, presented by OtterBox, and continues with the ECHL All-Star Game on Wednesday, Jan. 23. Both events begin at 7:05pm MT.
Right winger Branden Marino, however, was snubbed after putting up 10 goals and 30 assists in his 33 games this year. Many fans felt that Marino would be the only selection.
