K’s Hold On To Win Second Straight
Fort Wayne, IN – The Komets held the lead for much of the game on the strength of two goals by Jean-Michel Rizk and four total points by Fort Wayne native Kaliegh Schrock.
After having an extremely anemic power play, the Komets (16-13-2) got their fourth goal in their last eight opportunities. Elmira (14-14-3) also scored on the man advantage, but gave up a short hander on Rizk’s first of the night.
The Komets then exploded for four of the next six goals. Schrock assisted on two of them and scored another. The Jackals attempted to rally late and did tie up the contest at 5-5 with 4:21 left in the game.
Rizk notched the game winner in the waning moments of the game to seal the win. Coach Al Sims was pleasantly surprised at the offensive explosion.
“Six goals? Is that how many we had? It usually takes us three games to get that,” Sims said. “That was an outburst.”
He commented on Elmira’s lack of effort toward the end while defending Schrock.
“I think Elmira kind of relaxed with 40 seconds to go and they should have known better because everything Kaleigh touched tonight got to the net and it ended up in their net,” Sims said.
The penalty kill did surrender two goals, Rizk scored on a beautiful pass from Schrock to tie the game 14:33 into the first period. The Komets return to action New Year’s Eve at home. Puck drop is at 7:30 PM EST (4:30 PM PST). Audio will be available through the team’s website.
